Goal Setting
Understanding what you need from your test automation platform is the place to start. Our target in this phase is a simple 3-2-1 approach: 3 short term goals, 2 medium term and one long term. Once those are identified, everyone is aligned on where to focus our efforts in the project.
Business Process & Application Assessment
An overview of your business process and what applications combine to make those processes a reality is important. Understanding your application landscape is critical in selecting the right automation tools to support your journey.

Automation Setup
The next step is to configure the automation environment so the education and pilot projects can begin. This includes everything from install, password management and system under test configuration. Once the install is completed, we will start laying the foundation for the testware documentation.
Tool Education
We use a combination of computer-based training and feedback session to support learning. Once the users of the system have a foundational knowledge, MCANTA leads them through the first test. This lets them see how we use the tools to complete the test cases.
Testware Definition
This is also a good time to start building out the Testware documentation.
Assess Progress
First assessments are focused on selecting the best tests for automation and understanding their impact on risk to the organization. The bests tests for automation include those that are performed frequently, are manual labor intensive, have a relative low automation cost, and are medium to high risk to the organization. [do we need these examples?]. We recommend starting with high value, smaller initial tests and expanding from there.
Automate
This step includes understanding some of the unique attributes of the specific application under test and the general infrastructure. Once this is done, MCANTA will work to support the transition to our standard process of access, analyze, optimize and autonomize. As clients get many of these cycles under their belt they will run into scenarios where they can only partially automate a test. Ensuring that the effort spent automating will generate a return is important for all automations created.
Reporting
Having easy reports at your fingertips will help you communicate your progress and build confidence in your applications. MCANTA will help you understand the test coverage, defects found and how to review the test logs, all important for long term adoption and success.
Project Wrap-up
A look back over the project, reviewing areas that were successful and areas to focus on in the future. At this point clients are positioned to expand the automation effort, providing greater coverage of applications tested, and increasing the return that test automation brings to an organization.
